Prof Elmarie Venter, on behalf of her co-authors, Dr Welcome Kupangwa and Prof Shelley Farrington, attended the annual IFERA Conference in Kraków, Poland, which was hosted by the 6-8 July Jagiellonion University, during 6-8 July. 

 

More than 39 countries were represented at the conference. The two papers presented is part of Dr Kupangwa’s doctoral research which focused on values amongst indigenous African family businesses.  The title of the papers are:

  • Institutional carriers of values:  exploring values entrenchment by founders and NextGen leaders in family businesses.  (Nominated for Best Practice Award Paper).
  • Socialization mechanisms used in the transmission of values among Indigenous business families.

 

IFERA 2023 proved to be a remarkable event in the year, surpassing all expectations. The Jagiellonian University served as the gracious host, creating an engaging academic atmosphere complemented by the beautiful city of Krakow. The conference featured a rich and diverse program, including Doctoral Consortium, PDW, parallel sessions, and thought-provoking keynote speeches by Arist von Schlippe, Nora Bateson, and Zbigniew Inglot.

Besides the intellectually stimulating sessions, the conference also provided ample networking opportunities, fostering connections among participants. The social program, specially designed for this purpose, culminated in an unforgettable Gala Dinner in an old tram deposit, leaving attendees speechless with its grandeur and significance.
