PROFESSOR ELMARIE VENTER

Director: Family Business Unit

Prof. Elmarie Venter is a faculty member of Business and Economic Sciences at NMMU, Director of the NMMU Family Business Unit, and team leader for the NMMU STEP team. She has been  a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at UPE/NMMU since 1998. Her field of expertise and research is that of managing family businesses and succession from one generation to the next. Prof Venter also lectures and researches Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management and Marketing Communication Management.

PROFESSOR SHELLEY FARRINGTON

Prof. Shelley Farrington has been a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the NMMU/UPE since 1995. She was awarded her Doctorate in April 2009 for her study entitled "Sibling partnerships in South African small and medium-sized family businesses". Prof Farrington has extensive lecturing, research and practical experience in the field of small business and entrepreneurship, specifically relating to start-up issues and business plans. Her field of expertise in the area of family business relates particularly to entrepreneurship in family businesses and family relationships among family members in business together.

MS SHELLEY SAUNDERS

Member: Family Business Unit

Ms. Shelley Saunders has been lecturing since 2011 and is in the department of Business Management at NMMU. She was awarded her masters in April 2012 for her study titled: "Assessing the entrepreneurial attributes of undergraduate business students at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University". Her area of interest is in family business, in particular focusing on the next generation's role in the family business and entrepreneurship.

PROFESSOR CHRIS ADENDORFF

Prof. Adendorff is a lecturer promoting and researching Future Studies, Family Businesses, Entrepreneurship and Research Methodology at the NMMU Business School. He has been a business entrepreneur since 1985 and along with his Architect wife Gillian, built up a family business that is currently active both nationally and internationally. Both of them, also owner manage their own family businesses. He has a passion for the management of family owned businesses and in particular future studies, research methodology, governance and turnaround strategies.

MR TONY MATCHABA-HOVE

Member: Family Business Unit

Mr. Tony Matchaba-Hove has been a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the NMMU since 2010. He has a sound knowledge and practical experience in the theory and application of business management and financial planning principles, specifically in the areas of entrepreneurship, investment management and estate planning. Mr Matchaba-Hove has published and presented research on the entrepreneurial orientation of family owned small businesses and in particular is passionate about African family businesses.
